St. Lawrence Valley SPCA Renovation of 1977 Area of Facility
The St. Lawrence Valley SPCA is planning the renovation of the 20 Dog Run and Lobby areas of the Shelter. Built in 1977, these areas need upgrading and repair. Included, but not limited to, are replacement of windows and insulation, new lighting and ceiling fans in the lobby area, replacement of siding, upgrading of the heating system, realignment and repair of kennels where needed, new hatch doors and frames in the kennels and cat colony cages, replacement of wall board, replacement of some doors and repair of cement where needed. The project begins in May 2008 and we are working to raise the $50,000.00 necessary to complete it. Details of the project are listed at the end of this message. We are looking forward to upgrading this older area of our facility.
A donation to this project in memory or honor of a loved one, either two or four legged, is a wonderful way to ensure the care of Shelter animals for years to come.

St. Lawrence Valley SPCA Proposed Renovations to 20 Dog Run & Lobby Areas
Lobby: Replace Ceiling. Install trap door for access to rafter area. New Lighting-separate switches. Ceiling Fans (2)-multiple speeds. Re-Alignment of cages where needed-adjustment of latches. Replacement of wall board (similar or same as that used in new building). Re-insulate walls and ceiling with highest rating possible. Replace windows. Add additional window in cage #3. Windows no taller than cages. System of heavy duty screening for windows. New hatch doors & frames made of aluminum or other rust proof material-tight fitting to seal against drafts. Repair of cement flooring and gutter areas if needed. Drains in gutters run slowly. Check for blockages and repair if necessary.
20 Dog Run: Replace door between lobby and 20 Dog run-Some way to muffle noise-Frame made of aluminum or other rust proof material. Installation of acoustic material to reduce noise level. Re-alignment and repair of cages where needed and adjustment of latches. Replacement of wallboard with material similar or same as that used in new building. Replacement of masonry blocks currently on back walls of kennels. Replacement of windows. Possible installation of sash windows on end of area. Repair of cement flooring and gutter areas if needed.
Outside Kennels: Re-alignment and repair of cages where needed and adjustment of latches. Repair of cement flooring and gutter areas where needed.
Building: New Siding to match new building-insulate hatch doors-frames replaced with rust proof material. Repairs if needed to roofs of outside kennels-Both dog & cat areas.
Exercise Area: Areas with crushed stone beside building cemented over. Angled for drainage away from building.
Air Purification System Extension of duct work to extend air purification systems into lobby area.
Tranquility Sound System Studies have shown that playing low volume, tranquil music in animals shelters and kennels helps to reduce stress levels in dogs and cats. As both are prone to stress related illnesses, this system will help maintain better health, both mental and physical, and healthy animals have a better chance of being adopted.
Materials: Materials will meet or exceed code. Fixtures are to be commercial grade (switches, etc.) Because of the volume of water and cleaners used in maintaining the Shelter, material durability and water resistance is extremely important.
Floor Finish: Dura-Coat finish for Shelter flooring all areas of facility.
